The Cortina MK1 was launched in 1962 as a 2 door 1200 saloon, with the 1500 following in 1963.
This ‘Super’ version of the Mark 1 Cortina features the latter 1500 engine with an automatic gearbox, and as such is a rare thing.
This example has had the benefit of being previously restored, and as such it looks great with a hint of age and patina.
There are pictures in the file of the aforementioned restoration, although these are undated. There are also pictures of the car in the 2000s.
The exterior condition is very tidy, although the rear bumper has some surface rust present. The rest of the chrome appears in good condition.
The red interior is lovely and to some extent belies the age and mileage of the car. The seats are in good condition, as are the interior plastics and materials. The original steering wheel would appear to be fitted which is a nice touch.
In addition to the pictures in the file, we also have Cortina Mk1 Owner’s Club documentation, invoices for work and parts back to the 1960s, insurance documentation, sales brochure, and some miscellaneous paperwork. The original Service booklet is also present.
The Cortina is showing as having four previous owners. Having spoken to the vendor, the original owner bought the car new in 1965 and owned it for 20 years before the vendor's brother bought it in 1985. He owned it a number of years before it was transferred into a friend's name, and then back to the brother's name shortly thereafter. The vendor arranged the transfer into his name upon the unfortunate death of his brother.
Overall, this is a very tidy and usable example of a Mk1 Cortina with lots of history and provenance, current MOT, and it's also available with an attractive reserve price.
