Presents and drives well
Here we have a very nice example of the ever popular Ford Escort XR3i in hatchback form. This example finished in maybe the best colour of Diamond white with the correct shadow trim has some nice features about it including the correct alloy wheels, front spot lights, rear spoiler and the factory sunroof. This is complemented by the factory radio cassette and the best part is that it has no speaker holes anywhere it shouldn’t - a rare thing on a fast Ford from that era and something that definitely adds to its value as the trim is very hard to replace now.
The V5 states that it was an import, built in 1990 and registered in the UK on 4/ 7/ 1990. Whilst this is the case, it came from Jersey and was originally registered there, then came to the mainland in July of that year. Technically not really an import, but at least you know its history. The Escort comes with its original service book containing 10 stamps along with details of the Ford dealer in Jersey. There is also a collection of older MOTs, which sit nicely with the current one valid until August 2025, and a host of invoices and receipts that give you an indication of how well it has been looked after.
The history carries on with a lovely bit of accompanying information, which reads as follows:
“History file obtained from previous owners
Vehicle owned by 1st owner until he passed away in 2004, ownership then passed to his son (still within the same family). The son had no interest in Fords and subsequently parked it in a barn where it remained until approximately 2019/ 2020. The intention was to restore back to as new condition as possible however finances dictated otherwise. The vehicle had a lot of work carried out to it and parts replaced however it has now come the time to sell. Complete with MOT until August 2025.
Work carried out
Rear wheel cylinders, rear shoes changed, rear wheel bearings changed, hand brake cable changed, front calipers overhauled / serviced, front wheel bearings changed, front brake pads changed, new front panel fitted, new battery tray fitted, panel and battery tray spray colour matched, engine service, new interior heat exchanger fitted, new complete bush kit fitted, new horn and relay, steering column lower bearing fitted, new alternator, new front track control arms / springs, shocks and mounting bushes, new front discs fitted, front anti-roll bar bushes replaced with anti-roll bar removed and cleaned, new timing belt / tensioner and water pump, new front and rear speakers, new camshaft / tappets / camshaft seals / rocker gasket, treated underside of vehicle and waxoiled, spending in excess of £4, 000 in my ownership, car runs and drives very well.”
We hope you will agree this would appear to be a well sorted XR3i, but as ever we invite you to come and see it for yourself. There can’t be many around in this condition at this price guide range.
