I’m selling this car on behalf of my neighbour, he garaged it in 2003 where it sat until last year. We took it out, drained the fuel etc. and as to be expected from a Benz of this era it started first time. I carried out everything needed to get its (last ever necessary) MOT and get it running smoothly but have not had time to sort out any ‘cosmetic’ issues.
The work I carried out was; full professional refurbishment of all original brake calipers, all new pads and discs, all steering and suspension joints replaced, new distributer cap and ht leads, new spark plugs, one small patch of welding at the jacking point and other than that some sections of brake line needed replacing and that’s about it.
As tempted as I have been I knew I did not have the facility to keep it so I stopped there, the parts that need sorting out still are a couple of the windows don’t go down, needs a radio fitted, body work has dents and scratches all over, none are too big, I think a lot came from being in storage rather than on the road but would need a full repspray if you wanted it back to mint condition. It’s been upbadged to a 500se (good or bad depending on taste) Alloy wheels could do with a refurb, rear seats are the wrong colour, fuel gauge needs sorting, snapped key stuck in passenger door but it’s on central locking so not a huge issue. These are most of the things I have noticed, basically it’s a 40 year old car which has been used, it’s perfectly usable as is and I don’t mind it being a little worn around the edges but there’s plenty of tinkering to be getting on with when you fancy.
Open to sensible offersThis era of Benz is known as some of the best most reliable cars ever made, they’ll outlive most cars currently on the road even with the extra 40 years.
This is the very rare pre facelift version, and is the newest VHI (over 40) you can get so all the benefits (no tax, no MOT and most importantly NO ULEZ) whilst still enjoying mod cons such as central locking, electric sunroof, electric seat adjust etc.
it is a joy to drive, comfier than being on the sofa at home whilst sat on a 3. 8 litre v8, what’s not to love?
