Description
1949 Series C Black Shadow 2411191
A very tidy, matching numbers, original bike.
Dispatched June 1949 to Eleanor Motors in Hackney, East London.
Just one previous owner from new. The current owner is the godson of the first owner, and inherited the bike when he passed away 30 years ago.
An interesting part of this bikes history is that the original owner competed with it in the unique Clubman’s race held at Goodwood in April 1951. (The race was won by a Vincent, but not this one) Motorcycles would not return to race at Goodwood until the Revival, which started in 1998.
In 2007 the current owner carried out a sympathetic restoration, including an engine overhaul by Conways, and cylinder head work by Maughans in 2012. Receipts are available.
The bike has been ridden every summer since then, but covered less than 5000 miles.
The bike remains basically original apart from a modern BTH magneto, a Dave Hills centre stand, a V3 prop stand and a UFM manhole.
A comprehensive record of the bikes history and provenance is on file, some of which is available in digital format to prospective buyers on request.
VOC dating certificate, copy of works records and V5 logbook also present.
