Description
This absolutely stunning '68 original Squareback has just arrived & we love it ! The last owner imported it from Oregon, USA , 7 years ago and has continued to cherish it . The owner before him had it for 40 years & we still have the US registration & reg plate. We believe this was only the 3rd owner, so effectively the car has been in just 4 owners' hands in its 56 years. Due to living in a dry climate & subsequently always garaged & kept dry in the UK, it has never been welded & still wears its original L60B Peru Green, with a beautiful natural patina & polish throughs.
The brightwork is still radiant, from the bumpers to the bullets, it all stands off the dark green bodywork, contrasting just as it always has done. The car was originally registered on the 3rd July 1968 at "Motor Services Inc", in Baker , Oregon to Ira Kimball. We have the original service record, stamped through to 7th Feb 1973 when a day later it was purchased by John Graves of John Day, Oregon with just 36, 973 miles on the clock. Remaining in the town of John Day for the next 44 years , before being imported in the UK. It's extremely rare to find such an original, unwelded & standard car , just as it left the factory. If you open the doors, bonnet & rear hatch the shuts are perfect. There's a tool roll, original jack & even the moulded spacer is still present in the nose, to support the spare wheel .
Take a look at the original load card under the bonnet & the black rubber mat in the boot, both are still there. The original headliner has a couple of tears & a great stitched repair, telling part of its history. Whilst the o/ g Light Sand basket weave upholstery running across the high back seats & rear seat & door cards are also very good. The Variant sits proudly at stock height, on genuine white band tyres surrounding the chrome hub caps & beauty rings. We believe the car has only covered c74, 000 miles from new. The engine is still the original matching numbers engine & about 2, 000 miles ago it was meticulously stripped & rebuilt with slightly larger 1641cc heads . It drives like a dream & has no issues keeping up with modern-day traffic.
Now, here's the kicker, being passionate VW enthusiasts here at RestoHaus, we bought it as we just fell in love with how original she is.
So, the question, Is she for sale?
Maybe... we would only let her go for serious offers of around £15, 995, which you're welcome to contact us about.
