So Nelly is fast approaching her 58th birthday, as she was built on 16th December 1966. She came to the UK in 2011 from Virginia USA & then had a full nut & bolt restoration. All the rot was cut out and replaced with all-new quality panels , predominantly supplied by Autocraft. The long side, short side, rear corners, dog legs, front panel, I beams, top hats, cross members etc, it really was a fully quality resto. The body was then fully prepared from bar metal, through a series of primers, before laying L73 Chestnut Brown over L53 Sealing Wax Red. All new door & window seals were added together with handles & catches. Creative Engineering supplied brand new polished Deluxe trim, cab door tops, 8 pop outs & gorgeous safari windscreens .
Next came the running gear, we have masses of invoices from the complete build including one from Red 9 Design for one of their amazing EZ Rider twin wishbone front suspension kits complete with 4 pot vented discs. Also, their EZ Rider twin wishbone Rear IRS suspension kit to suit the 5-speed Subaru gearbox, mated to a 2litre Subaru Legacy engine, linked to a Mega Squirt mappable ECU with a digital readout on cab mounted tablet. The bus also boasts rear disc brakes & the suspension is fully adjustable. It's rolling on 17” Porsche Fuchs reps & low-profile tyres. Digital Smiths gauges were fitted to accurately keep an eye on everything, through the brand new wiring loom. You’ll spot the Retro Sounds stereo in the dash, which keeps it looking authentic, yet offers Bluetooth connectivity & pumps out through multiple speakers & subs.
With such a high-quality build the interior naturally didn’t escape the attention of the creator. The bus was fully sound deadend & insulated using top quality 3m products. The cab seats were stripped bare, with the frames powder coated , before being fully rebuilt & upholstered in a stunning deep red faux leather with matching door cards, this is carried through into the back on the Rusty Lee twin rock’n’roll bed & little buddy seat, which conveniently clips up out of the way when not required. The cab floor has Sisal custom-made coverings , whilst the rear has cream & brown period styled vinyl floor tiles, all sourced from Matmatz.
You’ll of no doubt spot the stunning oak veneer cabinetry which was built by Starlight & houses a Waeco CRX50 fridge, twin burner gas hob & sink under the sleek glass lid & the power management display is there as well. As you can see there's lots of cupboard storage and also a propex heater has been added, to keep you cozy. Both mains hook up & 12v via the leisure battery are included, together with LED lighting, so it's a really thorough build, using all the best components.
Lastly a tow bar has been added, should you wish to tow a small trailer, with your camping bits in .
