Description
The Land Rover Defender 110, introduced in 1983, is an iconic off-road vehicle known for its rugged design and exceptional durability. Built on the legacy of the earlier Land Rover Series models, the Defender 110 featured a longer wheelbase of 110 inches, giving it more stability and load-carrying capacity. Its design emphasized functionality over aesthetics, with a boxy, utilitarian body made from aluminium panels to resist corrosion. The vehicle's four-wheel-drive system, robust ladder-frame chassis, and solid axles made it highly capable in extreme terrains, earning it a reputation as one of the most reliable and versatile off-road vehicles ever produced.
Inside, the Defender 110 was minimalist, with a focus on practicality. The cabin was designed to be easy to clean and withstand harsh conditions, reflecting its intended use in challenging environments. Over the years, it was available with various engine options, ranging from naturally aspirated diesels to turbocharged versions, providing a balance of power and efficiency. The Defender 110's versatility also made it a popular choice for military, agricultural, and expeditionary purposes. Despite its spartan nature, the vehicle has a loyal following, with its design and capabilities being celebrated as quintessentially British and enduringly tough.
The example we are offering for sale, however, is a little different…
First delivered in September 1999, this 110 was sent to renowned specialists Overfinch just 2 months later for a full conversion. Out went the original Td5 and in went a glorious 5. 7 litre fuel-injected Chevrolet engine with tubular exhaust manifolds and an uprated cooling system package. The original invoice from Overfinch also states that the conversion included a heavy-duty four speed automatic gearbox, stainless-steel exhaust system, stage 1 ride & handling suspension package, quick ratio steering box, heated front windscreen, high power headlights, self-levelling rear suspension and wide track alloy wheels.
The interior was also refitted and features a Momo sports steering wheel, sound proofing treatment all round and manual Discovery front seats with adjustable lumbar pillows finished in Grey leather with contrast green piping. An upgraded sound system with a modern Pioneer head unit has also been fitted.
Since the conversion, the car has been maintained with no expense spared with a significant amount of the work being carried out by specialists Nene Overland. The car presents very well and the combination of its Aintree Green metallic paintwork and V8 soundtrack is guaranteed to turn heads.
