Chassis Number: ZFFHA02Bthe details below
Recorded Mileage: c. 42, 000 miles recorded
Introduced at the Paris Auto Salon in 1975, the contemporary styled 308 GTB – Ferrari’s second V8 road car, marked a return to Pininfarina styling following the Bertone-designed 308 GT4. Badged as a ‘proper’ Ferrari rather than a Dino, the 308 GTB had changed little mechanically apart from a reduction in both wheelbase and weight, retaining its predecessor’s underpinnings and transversely mounted engine that now featured dry-sump lubrication. Further developments included the introduction of an open-top GTS version with Targa-style removable roof and the adoption of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. An exhilarating driver’s car and a Ferrari purist’s delight, the 308 GTSi and its many derivatives proved a huge commercial success for Maranello, with over 12, 000 sold.
Previously registered to California, this 1981 308 GTSi, finished in Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior, arrived in the UK in 2022 to join a small car collection. The owner, a former McLaren engineer, has maintained the car himself, treating it to a cambelt service upon purchase, and in the last few hundred miles a further oil service. Although not documented, we understand prior to the 308 arriving in the UK it was treated to an engine-out overhaul which included, timing/ valve adjustment, valve guide seal replacement, cam seals, timing/ accessory belts, water pump, coolant hoses/ flush, fuel injectors and pump/ filter/ accumulator/ distributor, ignition distributor caps/ rotors/ wires/ extenders/ plugs, alternator, battery, starter motor, engine oil/ filter, transmission oil and attention to the front brakes.
The underneath of the car is in very good order, thankfully lacking the rust issues associated with a lot of British-delivered examples. The engine fires up instantly and runs well with plenty of power, and we understand the car drives exceptionally well. The interior is original and shows minor signs of wear here and there. The paintwork is largely in good order, and the car is fitted with a European specification front spoiler, aftermarket 16” wheels and stainless steel sports exhaust.
Supplied with a UK V5C, dating letter, what a great entry-level Ferrari for the enthusiast to enjoy and further improve as they wish.
This classic vehicle will be coming to auction with Dore & Rees Auctions on Wednesday 4th December at Five Zeroes Supercars Ltd, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. For further information please contact the Motoring department.
