Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The November Online Timed Auction on Thursday the 28th of November, Online. Background:
The 993 series marked the end of air-cooled 911 production for Porsche and while the model looked like a development of the outgoing cars, Porsche’s engineers redesigned their standard bearing model from the ground up to such an extent that only around 20% of its parts were carried over from the previous generation, the whole lot wrapped in a stylishly sensuous skin from British designer, Tony Hatter.
Naturally there was more power from the 3. 6-litre M64 engines but along with the increase in urge came a brand new all-alloy subframe carrying coil and wishbone rear suspension, finally banishing the dreaded lift-off oversteer.
For the first time, all models came with a 6-speed manual transmission - with 4-speed Tiptronic as an optional alternative and the 993’s refined performance and handling swiftly won over all the 'if it’s not air-cooled it’s not a 911' die-hards, as well as captivating new fans.
The car:
This beautiful 911 (993) Carrera 2 manual coupé was supplied new by Porsche dealer Stratstone of Wilmslow and first registered 1st August 1994. It is finished in Polar Silver Metallic with a Classic Grey Leather interior and matching grey carpets with electric Sports Seats, an electric sunroof, air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, as well as a Sony stereo/ CD player with Bluetooth functionality.
Power comes from the water-cooled M64 3. 6-litre 285bhp flat-six engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and the car features power-assisted steering, ABS brakes and sits handsomely on its original Carrera 15" alloys, shod with a set of brand new Bridgestone Potenzas.
The vendor reports that this car is in excellent condition throughout with an immaculate interior and almost unmarked bodywork and it has been exceptionally well maintained by all owners, including the penultimate custodian, who bought the car in July 1997 from AFN in Chiswick and owned it for 21 years.
The owner prior to the vendor bought the car from Classic Chrome and only covered 5, 000 miles in four years. The car has now covered 148, 694 miles from new with a fully documented and comprehensive service history from Stratstone, AFN in Chiswick and Porsche specialist Pickup Motorsport in Cricklewood. In May this year the car had a Major Service and brake fluid change by Porsche specialists Zuffenhaus of Solihull.
Major service history items carried out are as follows - new clutch fitted at 104, 000 miles, full sunroof refurbishment, both front dampers changed, new ignition coils and modules fitted, new heat exchangers and stainless sports exhaust fitted, a new alternator, steering rack overhaul, new boot and bonnet struts and front wishbones, speedo overhauled.
The car comes with all its original books and manuals, Porsche leather wallet, all invoices for services and repairs carried out, all MOT certificates from its first in 1997 to the last one which expires November 2024. It also comes with three keys and correct age related Porsche fobs!
The vendor bought the vehicle to 'tick the 911 box' and it didn't disappoint, proving to be the perfect touring, sports and/ or track car, including a recent NC500 excursion where the car performed impeccably and without missing a beat.
Summary:
Thoroughly well used and cherished, this 993 Carrera offers a new owner the chance to ‘scratch the 911 itch’ as the perfect daily driver, that will make every trip special.
