Description
Ford Escort Cabriolet
XR3i Limited Edition
Now available for sale is our beautiful 1990 (H Reg) Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet Limited Edition, finished in two-tone colour, the car is in excellent condition.
Equipment
As to be expected with a ‘Limited Edition‘, the XR3i comes with a raft of extras fitted from factory. The electrically folded soft-top roof is in excellent condition with no rips or tears and works a treat using the centre-console mounted button. There is also an unmarked leather tonneau cover to protect the roof when it is folded down. Central locking is fitted, with a gear-stick lock an optional extra on this car for additional security. The ‘up and over’ roof bar is a signature of the Escort, and all intact on this model.
Exterior
The Mercury Grey lower half and bumpers provides a contrast to the rest of the blue paintwork. A silver coachline along the side ties into this theme. As mentioned, the black soft-top is in excellent condition with no rips, tears or damage throughout. All trim, glass and rubbers are in great condition all-round. The electronic fold-out aerial only pops up when the radio is in use. The rear screen also still has the original ‘Polar Ford’ sticker provided by the original dealership! An excellent, original example of the Limited Edition.
Interior
Inside, the optional half-leather interior and period-upholstery transfer you straight back to the 90’s as soon as you jump in. Within the centre console, the original Ford cassette player/ radio is still in-tact and working as it it did 30 years ago. The centre console also houses the buttons for the electric folding roof; again, working as it should. The door cards are in great condition with no rips or sagging throughout. Within the door is the electric window buttons to lower and raise the front windows. The two-arm Ford steering wheel is original, with all binnacles, buttons and switches working throughout the interior.
Engine and Transmission
The 1. 6L EFi fuel injected engine with EEC IV engine management system produces 110bhp and 138Nm of torque. Performance stats of 0-60mph in 9. 0seconds and a top speed of 119mph mean the car can really keep up with modern traffic and means the Escort lives up to the ‘Fast Ford’ name and allows you to cruise in comfort with the roof retracted. The 5-speed transmission works seamlessly, with the clutch as smooth and crisp as ever. The car has covered 115, 000 miles since new and has been very well looked after throughout.
History File
The car comes with a folder full of previous MOT certificates (including the ‘old style’ types!) as well as a stamped Ford Service Book and all the original handbooks and manuals. There are also receipts for previous work carried out on the car.
Additional Items
Also included in the sale is the original sales brochure for the Ford Escort range from 1990 and a banner for the next owners garage wall, with a cross-section view of the car.
