Description
The Mercedes 560 SL was the top-of-the-range model of the R107 series. This model was in production from 1971 until 1989, and then replaced by the R129 after a very successful career. The 560 SL was introduced in 1986 and was only available on the American, Japanese and Australian market. The US versions had restricted performance, huge bumpers and a third brakelight, while the Japanese and Australian examples were built to European specification (LHD for Japan, RHD for Australia).
The car we are offering for sale is one of these rare (only 3000 examples made) and sought-after Japanese versions. It is quite unique as being in completely original and unrestored condition, and this in combination with a very low mileage of 37. 800 km. This 560 SL looks as it just left the showroom, and feels like a brand new car to drive. It is equipped with every single option : electrical windows, heated seats, factory hardtop, climate control,... The colour combination of Diamantblau Metallic with the chequered cloth seats in matching dark blue is just stunning, and suits this classy roadster very well.
Driving this mighty 560 SL is a bit of a revelation. It may be 35 years old, but it feels more like a new demonstration car from the Mercedes dealership. Not a single rattle and everything feels rock solid. The silky V8 engine propels the car to illegal speeds in the smoothest way possible, and the 4-speed automatic gearbox shifts as easily as in a modern car. All very impressive, as we just experienced in a 2500 km long trip to France and back. What a car !
As the R107 SL is becoming a proper collectors car, finding a top-spec example in this condition and with such a low mileage is a very rare thing. We are happy to have such an example available now, and we are sure that the next owner will be very pleased with this beautiful Mercedes. So if you want one of the best examples in the world, this is your opportunity !
