Description
1987 Yamaha SRX-6 in outstanding condition – this is a low mileage UK bike with only 4 previous owners, and the complete MOT history back to June 2000 suggests that the mileage of only 9053 from new is genuine.
This bike was fully restored by the previous owner in 2022 – this included a full chassis, engine, crank & gearbox rebuild, along with various upgrades including an uprated (later SZR660 model) oil pump, amongst other things.
The restoration is backed up by the comprehensive history file, which contains numerous receipts, etc. Also included within the history is an original Yamaha sales brochure, owner’s handbook, and warranty/ service booklet.
The current owner has also upgraded the rear shock absorbers with brand new high quality Bitubo units, which are fully adjustable for both preload and damping.
The bike is basically in standard/ original condition apart from the LED lighting and indicators, which were fitted by the previous owner as part of the restoration.
The battery, tyres, chain and all the other consumables are all in first-class condition, the electrics all work, and the bike starts, runs and rides as it should.
However, it should be noted that as the engine warms up, it develops a knocking noise at idle, which disappears above 2000-2500rpm – the noise is not there when the engine is cold. The current owner has checked the oil pressure by following the procedure outlined in the Yamaha factory manual, and the oil pressure was found to be extremely good (far more oil pressure than the minimum permitted according to the manual). This engine is essentially the same as an XT600, and with these engines there is a documented issue with the primary drive nuts working lose, which causes a knocking noise very similar to the noise that this bike has, but the current owner has not investigated this.
