Description
Manufactured new in July 1938, this BMW 327 was made from new with the rare and desirable factory option of the more powerful 80hp engine as found in the 328 model. Originally produced in black chassis 74212 was supplied new to Werner Rensch BMW in Halle Germany albeit in right hand drive specification. The cars substantial history file goes back to the 1970's when it was residing in California before making its way to the UK, where it has remained in the current ownership for many decades. During this time it has had VSCC papers & has been mildly campaigned in various motoring events & hill climbs.
The car is finished in brown over cream with a brown leather interior. Overall the car is in well used & patinated condition yet still presents well. Major attention has been given to the mechanics of the car keeping it in tip top order & as a result the car drives beautifully. The motor is smooth, free revving & powerful with a turn of speed not often found in pre war cars. The engine is running the triple carb' set up as found on the 328 models endowing the engine with no shortage of power. The engine is running on a post war cylinder block stamped BMW & produced in Eisenach in the Russian sector of Germany immediately after the war. The gear box is slick and a pleasure to use through out the 327's power curve.
A rare sight on British roads and a very sporting alternative to an equivalent Derby Bentley or similar albeit with a very teutonic flair.
