Description
This beautiful and stylish Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from 1991 has only done 116, 000 km and is in a very original and excellent condition. This example, with its first paint and original state, is the perfect embodiment of Mercedes-Benz’s slogan: “Das Beste oder nichts” (“The best or nothing”).
Only one owner and 116, 000 km
This Mercedes-Benz was delivered in the Netherlands in 1991 and still carries its original license plate from the first day of delivery. The SL comes with all original documentation and an extensive folder full of documents such as invoices and brochures. This undeniably reflects the enthusiasm and care of the owner, who handled the car meticulously.
First paint, in very original and excellent condition
Do you know what’s great about this Mercedes? The SL was built in an era when quality was top priority. Mercedes couldn’t afford to cut corners during that time, and that’s evident in practically every detail of this SL. The car is in beautiful original condition, with only light signs of use, considering its age and mileage. The windows are still in excellent condition, and the original rims are very attractive. The headlights are crystal clear, and the exterior is still in its first paint. Mercedes did it right—the paint is still in beautiful condition.
The instrumentation is typically Mercedes-Benz: functional, clear, and analog. In this example, it all looks very good, just like the steering wheel and the dashboard. The leather upholstery has a wonderfully beautiful retro color, and the leather still looks gorgeous. This also applies to the carpets, which look very fresh.
Exceptional handling
What an excellent road handling! Mercedes paid a lot of attention to the driving dynamics and wanted to improve this at all costs compared to its predecessor. This is still clearly noticeable today. This SL feels stable. The engine is incredibly smooth and has more than enough pulling power. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, making this SL a fantastic car with which you can effortlessly cover long distances.
A revolution or evolution?
When the brand-new SL, also known as the R129, arrived at Mercedes-Benz dealers in 1989, customers faced a tough choice. Mercedes-Benz did everything to sell the predecessor, the SL known as the R107, with the biggest engines and the best options. Would you choose a fully optioned SL R107, the most developed model, or the brand-new R129? Difficult, if you ask us. The R129 was so different, also underneath, that it was actually a revolution rather than an evolution. An SL like this practically drives like a modern car, with unparalleled smoothness and very safe and stable road behavior. On the American market, for example, the new 300 SL had more power than the top model of the previous generation, the 560 SL.
