With one of the longest running body-styles offered by the marque, the convertible variant of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow has been the poster car for the wealthy and famous since its first release in 1966. First given the name, Silver Shadow H. J. Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupé, the car became known as the Corniche in 1971. Only ever produced in limited quantities and at great cost, the Corniche was one of Rolls-Royce's most expensive models throughout its production run.
Following the release of the Silver Spirit/ Spur in 1980, they elected to update the Corniche (as the Corniche II) in 1986 with the new car's suspension and interior rather than re-engineer a convertible of the new design. For 1990, they released another slew of updates corresponding with the new Silver Spirit/ Spur II. Now the Corniche III, a new Automatic Ride Control adaptive damping hydro-pneumatic rear suspension, more ergonomic interior, and enhanced safety features not only satisfied ever-more stringent government requirements, but also enhanced passenger comfort. As anyone who has experienced a drive in a Corniche, few vehicles can match its effortless luxury and timeless style.
The magnificent 1990 Rolls-Royce Corniche III Convertible featured here is finished in stylish Masons Black over an impeccably kept Tan leather interior featuring hand-finished Burl Walnut woodwork throughout. I personally sold this Corniche III when it was new to its one and only owner, famed shopping center owner Donald Couch. Over the years, Mr. Couch has owned more than thirty brand-new Rolls-Royces and gave each one the best of care.
