Description
Development of the W124 began in 1977 just 2 years after the market introduction of the W123 which had a production run of 11 years. During the winter of 1980–1981, the final exterior for the W124 program was completed, chosen as the leading proposal by design director Bruno Sacco, and approved by the board of management in early 1981. The W124 finally made its debut in late 1984 in saloon guise. Estate and Coupe variants followed 2 and 3 years later respectfully.
The CE Cabriolet model made its debut much later in the models life cycle with customer deliveries commencing in 1993.
Manufactured in November 1983 and delivered January 1994 to its first owner by the Cathedral Motor Company in Truro. Finished in Brilliant Silver with Grey Leather and options consisting of: 8 hole alloy wheels, front passengers airbag, Tempomat cruise control with electric steering column, front armrest and headlight wash/ wipe.
The car has been very well maintained throughout its 30 years with supporting service history. In the last 8 months a comprehensive recommissioning was undertaken, including corrective treatment of the underside, a complete professional respray to an extremely high standard and a full service conducted in October using original Mercedes parts.
The car is as tight as a drum to drive and the engine is probably the smoothest 3. 2 version we have encountered.
Overall, a delightful car to own and drive and in a condition that belies its age. A very sensible price proposition considering its relatively modest mileage too.
