Description
This is one of just 244 UK home market MG TF1500’s, an incredibly rare car. This particular matching numbers example was built on the 31st January 1955 and was subject to a full rebuild in 1986. A letter on file confirms that in 1986 its ‘new’ owner travelled to Glasgow to collect the car although it had been standing for a number of years. The TF was then driven from Glasgow to Hereford running very well throughout the long trip south. TFX 151 was taken to a Hereford restorer for a full strip and down and restoration. The ash frame was rebuilt, bodywork was renewed as required and the car then treated to bare metal re-paint in the cars original colour of Black. The chrome work was also renewed. The interior was then re-upholstered by a local based trimmer, Wikes and Weaver of Hereford and the car then taken to MG specialists Naylor Brothers in Bradford who did all the mechanical work to include a mechanical overhaul, rebuilt suspension, rebuilt gearbox and attending to the dashboard and instruments.
Now many years on from the rebuild, the TF1500 has had continual upkeep and improvements, Notable work includes a re-wire in 2008, a top end engine rebuild and unleaded head in 2009 and in 2010 the MG had gearbox work and 4. 3 ratio rear axle fitted. Between 2010 and 2021 the MG covered around 14, 000 miles and was used on a regular basis, proving an incredibly reliable, usable car. Thousands of miles of faultless motoring were enjoyed and a comprehensive invoice file shows regular upkeep and various new parts.
In 2021 the MG was purchased by its most recent owner in Grantham, Nottinghamshire and good quality upkeep has been maintained. During 2023 £5000 was spent on the TF, the doors were removed, corrosion was cut out and replaced with fresh metal ahead of being re-painted and re-fitted to the car. The car has had light use over the past few years and has arrived with us in lovely usable condition. This is essentially an older high quality restoration that retains a lovely level of patina. Mechanically very strong and driving well, this is a delightful, rare home market TF1500 that is ideal for regular use, shows and events.
