The Mercedes-Benz SL R129, produced from 1989 to 2001, is a significant chapter in the history of the renowned German automaker. It succeeded the R107 series and was designed as a luxurious and technologically advanced convertible. The R129 was a masterpiece of engineering, featuring innovations like an automatically retractable roll bar, which deployed in the event of a rollover, adding a crucial safety dimension to open-top driving. Over its production span, the R129 went through various updates and engine options and its timeless, elegant design and superb craftsmanship have made it a sought-after classic among Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts.
We are pleased to offer this Mercedes SL 280 in Brilliant Silver with grey leather interior. First registered in August 1996, the SL looks great in silver and this example is no exception.
The paintwork is presentable with only minor marks and scuffs. The alloy Monoblock alloys look great and make this SL look far more purposeful than a standard car. The black soft top has some marks and unfortunately doesn’t appear to work, and is also a little frayed around the edges. The Perspex windows are clear.
There is no hardtop and the boot lock is also missing.
Inside, the grey leather seats are presentable and lightly patinated, most significantly on the driver’s seat bolster which is a little creased. A tape deck is fitted - and there is also an Alpine CD auto changer in the boot. The SL also features climate control and front floor mats. The rear view mirror needs attention in that the glass and surround is missing, which is in the cubby between the front seats.
The car comes with V5C plus some MOT history and the original book pack including stamped service book, the last stamp of which was in 2016 with 70, 311 miles on the clock.
The R129 SL is beginning to come into its own as both a versatile, useable roadster and one of the last over-engineered Mercedes. Don’t’ miss out on this No Reserve example!
