The first Jaguar XJ was launched in 1968 and the XJ designation has been used for successive Jaguar flagship models ever since. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have had the input of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder. The Jaguar XJ (X300) was manufactured between 1994 and 1997 and was the first XJ produced entirely under Ford ownership and can be considered an evolution of the outgoing XJ40 generation. Like all previous XJ generations, it features the Jaguar independent rear suspension arrangement with the design emphasis on improved build quality, improved reliability and a return to traditional Jaguar styling elements. The X300 was stylistically intended to evoke the image of the more curvaceous series XJ. The front of the car was redesigned significantly to return to four individual round headlamps that provided definition to the sculptured bonnet. Mechanically, it was similar to the XJ40 that it replaced. Six-cylinder X300s are powered by the AJ16 inline-six engine which is a further enhancement of the AJ6 engine that uses an electronic distributor-less ignition system.
Supplied to the Japanese market and first registered as '399 MU 5563' on the 8th July 1996, chassis SAJJFKLG3BJ781196 was specified in the attractive colour scheme of Glacier White with a Savile Grey leather interior in 'Select' trim, and fitted with the 3. 2 Litre AJ16 Six-Cylinder engine. Supplied with the original book pack in Japanese, there is evidence that the car was very well cared for and a number of service invoices are on file from this period. Imported into the UK in 2020 after purchase from a Japanese auction house, the first UK owner would have the car serviced in December 2020 at 109, 030 kilometres and kept the car in his private collection prior to having it registered with the DVLA on the 1st April 2022 and the XJ would continue to be maintained to a very high standard with a number of invoices on file from his period of ownership which include work to the shock absorbers, new tyres and other improvements. During June 2022, the Jaguar would be sold on to the previous owner for £6, 995 at 111, 150 km (68913 miles) and he would keep it until October 2023, when it was acquired by the vendor. The vendor has continued the high standard of maintenance, with a service performed by a Jaguar specialist at 117, 189 km (72, 187 miles) in July 2024. Also in 2024, the vendor opted to have the rear and side windows professionally tinted to modernise its specification and the last MOT pass in March 2024 at 114, 141km displays no advisories.
Now offered to market due to the vendor spending most of his time abroad, 'N848 WUP' is described by the vendor as being a 'very good' example all round and pointed out that at the last service, the specialists commented that it was a 'notably clean example' and described it as 'rust free'. Upon inspection, the big-cat started notably easily and the rare Savile Grey leather interior was seen to be in very good order for the age, with the original stereo/ casette player included in the sale. The vendor pointed out two areas that may need addressing in that the offside front wing has an area where the paint has lifted, but is the same colour underneath, so may have been a previous repair that has succumbed to the British weather and that the drivers' side overmat was a little dirty due to use. It is however noted by the vendor that the Jaguar 'drives very well' and is intending the drive it to the Buxton sale from his address in London.
