A rare and exciting motorcar
Notable as Iso's final automotive product, the Lele was named after marque founder Renzo Rivolta's daughter-in-law. Introduced in 1969, the 2+2 seater's striking silhouette was the work of Bertone. Derived from that of its Rivolta predecessor - and thus inspired by Giotto Bizzarrini (father of the Ferrari 250 GTO and Lamborghini 350GT) - the newcomer's separate boxed-steel platform chassis was equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a De Dion back axle, recirculating ball steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Powered by first Chevrolet (5. 4 litre / 5. 7 litre) and then Ford (5. 7 litre) V8 engines allied to either manual or automatic transmission, the two-door coupe proved an effortlessly strong performer; the humblest derivative being credited with 300bhp and a 130mph plus top speed. A credible rival to the likes of the Aston Martin DBS and Ferrari 365GT 2+2, the Iso Lele was even more exclusive. Phased out when Iso closed its doors in December 1974, some sources suggest that just 317 cars were produced of which a mere 12 were to right-hand drive Sport specification.
