Description
1972 NG TF 1800cc manual overdrive. Nautic Blue with tan upholstery a black hood, full tonneau and side screens. NG Cars was founded in 1979 by vehicle and aeronautical design engineer Nick Green and based in New Milton, Hants. He began his career with Associated Engineers; a large manufacturer of car components and throughout his life had an interest in car re-construction. Over a period of nine months he developed his first NG model TA which appeared in Motor Sport in October 1979. This car went some way toward honouring the Aston Martin International of the 1930s. The TA was a huge success and Nick was immediately spurred on to design the car he would really like to own. The result was the TC that appeared in V8 form in 1981. In 1983 the 2+2 TD appeared in response to customer demand for a more practical NG, and, later in the same year it appeared with the elegant flowing wings that created the TF. Based upon MGB running gear fitted to a bespoke cruciform chassis, NGs were a well engineered, beautifully constructed kit that gave a new lease of life to many rusting donor cars which, by the 1980s, were easy to find. Over 1000 NG cars have been constructed in various formats and with a range of engines. This beautiful TF has been with its last keeper an automotive engineer for over 30 years, he built this car with love and enthusiasm and he and his wife enjoyed many years of touring travelling as far afield as Spain and Portugal. As you can imagine this is a very well sorted car that was put together properly and still remains as good today, the Mercedes blue paintwork still displaying a lovely lustre in the sunlight and the interior showing minimal wear throughout. The 1800 MG engine has the correct oil pressure which pulls very well through the rev range mated to an overdrive gearbox that is operating correctly, an unleaded cylinder head is also fitted. Dashing and iconic, the original MG TFs problem is that it looks so much better than it drives, a problem the NG TF addresses by taking the bulk of its mechanical components from a donor MGB. This approach has a lot to commend it, not least the fact that the MGB is tough, durable, and very reliable. The key issue is the quality of the original build; if you can find one that has been built properly then youre on to a winning combination of vintage looks and semi-modern driving dynamics which is where this beautifully finished example comes in and subsequently this NG looks far more expensive that its price reflects.
