Description
With us at RFH Classics we have this charming 1958 Standard Pennant finished in an eye-catching two-tone Beach White over Medici Blue with a matching Blue and Beige Vynair interior. Sometime known also as the Standard 10, this beautifully preserved example is in excellent condition inside and out. We believe the car was originally supplied through Olton Garage in the West Midlands in 1958 and is the colour combination is that of the official sales brochure of the year, a copy of which is included in its history file.
The Pennant, the tail finned variant of the Standard Ten, was introduced in October 1957 and came with the option of this rare two-tone paint scheme. Powered by an upgraded 948cc engine delivering 37 bhp, it was a lively little car for its time. Contemporary options could include a radio, heater, leather upholstery, and a two-pedal control system. Notably, a 1958 review in The Motor recorded a top speed of 70. 2 mph, with 0-60 mph achieved in a modest 35. 3 seconds. The list price for this model was £728, which included taxes of £243, marking it as a premium choice in its class.
This Pennant has undergone an extensive restoration in 2022 and presents in outstanding condition, featuring the iconic two-tone paintwork and an exceptionally well-preserved interior, with nearly new carpeting. Key mechanical updates include a new clutch and master cylinder in 2022, and a replacement steering box in July 2023, with invoices on file. The car is powered by a 948cc OHV engine paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox; it starts up effortlessly and runs smoothly. In our view, this is one of the finest Standard Pennants available on the market today, a true slice of 1950s motoring nostalgia and an impressive example of a model that was once 30% more expensive than its predecessor.
