Description
“I was commissioned in 2011 to find the best MGC in the country and I do not think that Octagon Services fell short in assisting the acquisition of MRD 422F” wrote renowned MG Specialist Geoff Enoch when placing a valuation on this car of £28, 000 in September 2020. Some 31 years ago this extraordinary car had been valued at £20, 000 and described in every area as ‘concours’ condition. That was a high price for an MGC back then, probably twice what a typical ‘C’ would sell for. Quite a bit has been published about this award-winning car. We would describe it as one of the very, very best and certainly we have never driven an MGC quite like this one.
On the road it is utter perfection and in most respects it is of the specification when supplied new in February 1968, a right hand drive, home market roadster in Mineral Blue, with wire wheels, black hood/ tonneau and overdrive. The original, full nut and bolt restoration of this car with a photographic record was carried out in 1993. There are two large files of history, photos, and restoration/ maintenance invoices along with details of the subtle upgrades. The most significant of these is the superb electric EZ power steering which has great feel and makes no discernible noise. That was fitted in 2017 along with a full set of Pirelli Cinturato tyres and a service at a cost of over £3, 000. It has poly suspension bushes, Lucas H4 headlamps, an electronic ignition module and the distributor is re-mapped for use with modern fuel. In the 31 years since the full rebuild, the car has covered just 24, 000 miles, benefitting from regular specialist maintenance and dry storage. A restoration to this standard today would cost three times our asking price. Quite simply, this MGC is a gem!
