Description
The Elan 2 was introduced to the world in 1962 with a 1, 500cc engine and four-speed gearbox in the form of a small, stylish two-seater roadster. The Plus 2 (codenamed M20) was introduced in 1967 and was arguably better proportioned than the ‘baby’ Elan. In 1971 the +2S 130 was launched with the Lotus ‘Twin Cam’ engine, providing an improved output of 126bhp, hence the ‘130’ suffix on the model. It produced a peak torque of 113lb ft at 5, 500rpm, providing plenty of power to get the most out of this lightweight, usable family sports car. The +2S 130 was a significant step up in quality with a host of luxury accessories from quartz halogen fog lamps to a walnut dashboard and electric windows. In October 1972, long-requested five-speed gearboxes finally arrived as an option to make the ride smoother, and the Lotus Elan +2S 130/ 5 became “the” version to have.
This 1973 Lotus Elan Coupé benefited from an extensive restoration. Powered by a 1. 6-litre Lotus-Ford Twin Cam inline-four engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the odometer shows just 85, 430 miles (not guaranteed).
Mechanically, a complete engine rebuild has been carried out, including a refurbishment of the carburettors (nevi) and the installation of an electronic ignition system. Braking and suspension components have been overhauled and all four wheels are fitted with Toyo 350 175/ 70 R13 tyres. The electrical system has been thoroughly serviced. Its most recent routine maintenance included replacement of the engine oil, oil filter, spark plugs, brake fluid and auxiliary belt, as well as servicing of the electrical components. The car is supplied with an approved MOT inspection.
