Description
This exceptional, fully rebuilt RHD matching numbers Jaguar E-Type Series One 4. 2 Roadster was built on the 21st December 1966. The car was despatched on the 13th January 1967 and through distributor Jaguar Cars, New York was supplied to its first owner, Philip Kantor Associates Inc. An original Motor Vehicle Certificate of Title from the State of Florida confirms that in 1979 the E-Type was still owned by a Mr Kantor and it wasn’t until 2018 when the car resurfaced again here in the UK requiring full restoration. The E-Type was then subject of a total full nut and bolt restoration by a Devon based Jaguar E-Type restorer and supplied in 2022 to its most recent owner fresh from completion. VAM 719D has covered just a few hundred miles since restoration and is in exquisite condition.
The E-Type was fully stripped down and then blasted ahead of being mounted on a rotary jig in order to maintain the correct dimensions of the body. The floor and inner and outer sills were removed and a complete new floor pan fitted to the shell. The body was fitted with new inner and outer sills, new toe boards and new panels behind the seating area. A new transmission tunnel was fitted, and the rear quarter panels and boot floor removed. All this was then replaced with brand new panels. The bonnet was essentially as new with various new parts, the doors re-skinned and new top quality space frames were fitted. The shell was then prepared for fully re-painting and prior to build up was wax injected as required.
VAM 719D was completely renewed with a fully rebuilt engine, rebuilt gearbox and differential. Carburettors were completely overhauled, the rear suspension rebuilt with all new bearings and seals, the front suspension rebuilt and poly bushed and the rear braking system rebuilt with Zeus piston assemblies. The radiator was re-cored, a new water pump fitted and other new components included all ignition items, header tank, fuel tank, fuel pump, steering rack, all new brake and fuel lines, clutch, wiring looms, shocks all round, hoses, wheels, tyres, alternator, uprated starter motor, stainless steel exhaust and chrome triple plated by ACF Howell. The interior was then completely re-trimmed and a new mohair hood fitted. Photographs and a detailed file of invoices from the restoration accompany the car.
This is essentially a running in, freshly rebuilt E-Type. Arguably this the best model of all when considering looks and drivability, and this pristine car does not disappoint. The bodywork is a master class, the paint finish truly stunning and the underbody of the car is as impressive as the top. The engine bay is magnificent and the interior has been beautifully trimmed. This is an A1, first class restored car that would no doubt cost well in excess of £200, 000 today. On the road the car offers exhilarating performance, its quick, feels tight and responsive and the rebuilt engine is strong, powerful and holds excellent oil pressure. The four speed all syncromesh gearbox is super smooth, this is a magnificent car in every respect and its ready to be enjoyed on the open road.
