Description
HERE at Martin Howey Classics (Est. 26 years), we like to offer the different, the unusual, the rare, the cars with stories to tell etc. Today we bring you a 1953 Austin Somerset (A40) which, for what it may lose in cosmetics, makes up for with rock solid originality.
Allow me to explain. This old girl is as strong as a tank. Metal body panels, the underside, the whole business. She even has an MoT until February 2025. It's when you look at a rare survivor like this that you realise what the quality of metal must have been back then. She is "polished through." That is to say that, on my photos, anything that you might think are reflections or clouds in the sky are really areas lovingly polished, polished and polished again until bare metal starts to reveal itself. Rust and rot on this car? No. It is just what I have mentioned. Never seen a paint refresh since the day it left the factory.
As ever, I do my best to keep my margins to a minimum and offer for sale this 71-year-old gem. There is even an article about her in this year's most recent County Counsel Magazine. The Owners Club mag. of the Austin Counties cars.
Her engine is as sweet as you could wish for with superb oil pressure showing on the original period dashboard. She glides through her gears (column) although the brakes are a tad sticky. Probably lack of use. Find better for the money? I doubt it. Originality? Boat loads of it. There you go. Another gem!
Ring for more details. I can also assist with delivery
I don't sell "second hand" cars; I sell extremely old vehicles which are, in the main, motoring antiques. Viewing is always encouraged so that you can see what you are getting. Your opinion and expectations may vary from mine. Then again, you could be in total agreement as the majority of my customers have been for the past 26 years. At the moment, the youngest vehicle in stock is 33-years-old and the oldest is 90!
Thanks, Martin.
