The Austin-Healey 3000 is a sports car built between 1959 and 1967 by Jensen Motors for the Austin-Healey brand. It is known to specialists as the "Big", in reference to its large 3-litre engine. It achieved numerous sporting successes in rallies at the time, particularly in the Alps, and was driven by some of the greatest drivers: Carroll Shelby, Donald Morley, Vic Elford, Pat Moss, Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Mäkinen, Rauno Aaltonen... Today, it is still used in racing by enthusiasts of the brand. The 3000 Mark III was launched in October 1963, and remained in production until the end of 1967, when Austin Healey production ceased. (A further car was built in March 1968.) Rated BJ8, the new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healey's with a 148 hp (112 kW) engine. Improvements to the engine provided a new camshaft, valve springs and twin SU HD8 carburettors. A new exhaust system design. Power-assisted brakes are now fitted as standard. Only 2+2 seat versions have been made. Leather seats are added to the list of options. Description This very beautiful Austin Healey is American from the state of New York and underwent a total restoration ( Frame Off) from 1992 to 1994 in France from a real wreck. We have a complete file with photos, invoices since 1994 and a list of all the parts that were changed. The car changed hands in 1995 and moved to the Trojan region. It has clocked up just 3, 711 km since its restoration. The engine was rebuilt with complete rectification of the block in 2004. Its current owner bought it in 2005 from a dealer who had put the HEALEY up for sale. This HEALEY has taken part in numerous tourist rallies and has been regularly serviced. The car even went to Ireland to take part in a rally, and travelled the length and breadth of France. The maintenance file with all the invoices is supplied. The car has been fitted with an electronic ignition and a side exhaust system; its owner will be doing a little customisation with a side opening in the wings to improve the evacuation of engine heat. The tyres were changed in 2017, and the car clocked up 21, 000 km in 2017, with a major intervention on the gearbox and its overdrive. The brakes will be overhauled in our workshops, along with a few cosmetic touches. Today, the car is ready to go: it's a real sports car to drive, with an exhaust that will delight your ears and an engine that has tremendous energy. The gearbox is smooth, the gears shift well and when you activate the overdrive, the Healey gobbles up miles. The dashboard is very clean, everything works, the top is in very good condition, the woodwork is in very good condition, no cracks in the varnish. The black seats are in excellent condition, neither sagging nor torn. The carpets are clean and black. Externally, the car is very clean, the doors are well aligned, the underside is perfect, it's a very healthy car.
The latest major work carried out in addition to the overhauls: 2016: steering box and steering gear rebuilt, alignment 2017: 4 new tyres and 4 new spoked wheels 2017: engine compression check, carburettor and ignition adjustment 2018: gearbox and overdrive overhauled 2018: radiator refurbishment 2020: exhaust system 2023: engine sealing 2023: refurbishment of the 2 rocker panels with paintwork 2024: braking overhaul, change of power assistance unit Our opinion An Austin Healey that has been made reliable and looked after by its current owner; this is an opportunity to drive with complete peace of mind.
