SUMMARY
This is quite some car. It ticks all the boxes you could possibly hope for, if you’re into these incredibly addictive older Mercedes Diesels. For a start it’s the ultra rare highly sought after C250TD with what was probably last of the old school Mercedes diesels and a 5 cylinder one at that, however its just new enough to be very refined and the turbo makes it rather quick too. The torquey turbo charged OM605 engine driving the wheels through the 722. 6 five speed automatic gearbox makes it both swift and a very relaxed cruiser, all this wrapped up in a very well specified package makes this into the perfect continent crosser.
This car was bought new in November 1999 under the NATO sales program by an aircraft engineer serving in the British Army in Germany. He actually bought it on behalf of his father, who after he took delivery of the car at the Sindelfingen factory, kept it right up to July this year, religiously keeping it garaged throughout his ownership, and mainly using it for European road trips in the summer to visit his wife’s family in Austria. This car was clearly his pride and joy and was serviced by Falcon Mercedes in Lincoln, and Mercedes of Boston. The resultant service history is just incredible, every piece of paper you could hope for is with this car, right down to the purchase documentation, ferry tickets from when he collected it, every single tax disc until they were discontinued in 2014 and naturally every invoice and every MOT certificate. What’s more incredible is as far as I can see, the car is still in original paint, which is quite some achievement for a W202 of this vintage. The underside also totally belies its age and has the look of a much newer vehicle.
However due to advancing years, and with recent use dwindling, at almost 90 years old, and after a quarter of a century of ownership, he decided it was as time to hang up his keys and say goodbye to his faithful Mercedes, soon after it found its way to me. When I bought this car I honestly didn’t initially realise how special it was, but having been over it with a fine tooth comb, it soon became clear that this was one of those cars that I spend my life looking for. I’ve been dealing in Mercedes for nearly twenty years now, and every now and again, you get pleasantly surprised; this was one of those occasions.
When you drive this W202 C-Class, you’ll soon realise cars have regressed in terms of ride comfort and smoothness. This has to be one of the least stressful cars I have ever driven, and it feels like a true quality product; that hewn from granite feeling of old is still there, yet its so, so refined in the way it drives. If its this good after 96K miles and twenty five years, I’d love to have driven it when it was new, it must have been mind blowingly good!
I will be genuinely sorry to see this one go as I doubt they’ll be another along anytime soon. To send it on its way, I’ve just had the it serviced, including carrying out a gearbox ATF/ Filter change as well as changing the brake fluid and filter. The service book had to be stamped on a page outside the usual areas as all the entries in the book had been previously stamped by Mercedes dealerships, mostly Falcon Mercedes of Boston, Lincolnshire.
Whoever is lucky enough to own this beautiful car next, is in for a real treat. Good W202’s are few and far between, and good W202 C250TD are all but extinct as most were a victim of their own success.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website.
