This lovely 1968 Semi Auto Karmann Ghia was imported from sunny California in 1994 and has since been registered as a Historic Vehicle. This designation exempts it from road tax, MoT testing, and even ULEZ charges. Despite these exemptions, it recently passed an MoT to assure the next owner of its solid condition. With only one advisory—an easily replaced worn tyre—the car has driven just 1, 000 miles since this inspection, making it road-ready and reliable.
Included in the paperwork is a Volkswagen Heritage Certificate, which shows that this Karmann Ghia left the factory on June 7, 1968, headed for Los Angeles. This classic coupe was restored and resprayed in the late 1990s, and it’s been carefully garaged and maintained since... although does show some slight paint imperfections, as to be expected. Along with a complete mechanical overhaul, the interior was fully re-trimmed with new seats, carpets, and door panels, giving it a fresh look and comfortable ride.
The Ghia features a rare semi-automatic gearbox (recognized as an ‘automatic’ by the DVLA for licensing purposes) that was recently overhauled and rewired by VW specialist Pete Williams at Aircooled Technic. The original 1500cc engine has been upgraded to a 1600cc unit, helping this classic keep up with modern traffic while maintaining its nostalgic character.
A retro-style FM radio with USB and MP3 playback keeps the interior both functional and stylish. This year, the Karmann Ghia received new alloy wheels and four fresh tyres, with only 600 miles on them. The original wheels with hubcaps are also included if you wish to revert to a vintage look.
