Description
HERE at Martin Howey Classics (Est 26 years) we just love "interesting" cars. Real life examples of toy cars I owned back in the 50s and early 60s when Corgi and Dinky were at their peak! This, I would suggest is one such interesting vehicle. It is a 1953 Vauxhall Wyvern 1508cc. Finished in a deep lustre black and with contrasting red interior, she was definitely a nod to the American look back in the early 50s. You can just imagine one of those screaming Police sirens fitted to it as it roars along the highway in a black and white movie!
Poor Vauxhall suffered awful abuse around this era as their new cars trundled off the production line at Luton only to "crumble" away to practically nothing within two or three years. All the more amazing, therefore, for me to unearth this total gem. Underneath will be better than anything you are imagining as you read this. Mega straight, rot free and painted in a pleasing and subtle matt black. All structural parts are correct, including jacking points. And even including jacking point covers!
Externally, she is in delightful order both panel wise and regarding paint work. She has also been re-chromed and what an eyeful of 1950s motor car this is! Engine is really sweet too. I was planning to ask more than the price you see here on the advert but just a couple of small things held me back. The pull starter on the dash was working but has now ceased to do so and so she starts from underneath the bonnet. Also the brake pedal is really firm but brakes are not at their best. Hey ho, the price you for keeping old cars in storage.
A mega-rare sight today, this 71-year-old Vauxhall is a throwback to when the designers really had fun on their drawing boards. This, I would suggest, is a proper motor car!
Note also the bonnet opening arrangement. This was unique at the time and was discontinued a few months after this Wyvern was built. It can open three separate ways - from either side (see photo) or it can be removed altogether!
Ring for more details. I can also assist with delivery
I don't sell "second hand" cars; I sell extremely old vehicles which are, in the main, motoring antiques. Viewing is always encouraged so that you can see what you are getting. Your opinion and expectations may vary from mine. Then again, you could be in total agreement as the majority of my customers have been for the past 26 years. At the moment, the youngest vehicle in stock is 33-years-old and the oldest is 90!
Thanks, Martin.
