The Hampton marque took its name from Hampton-in-Arden, where the Company was originally founded, however, production was very soon moved to Kings Norton, near Birmingham, before finally moving to Stroud.
The Company was in existence from 1911 until 1933, but today just five cars are known to survive.
The Hampton presented here is in fact the earliest known. A 1920 11. 9 model, it is unique in being the only remaining example powered by a 1. 8 litre Dorman engine. At that period many car manufacturers used proprietary engines, Dorman being a well-regarded maker and supplier.
This car is the subject of a four-page feature in The Automobile in June 2022, which charts the known history, discovery and subsequent painstaking restoration of this fascinating motor car. Starting life as a four-seat tourer, supplied new to a A F Coates of Bristol, it was in need of considerable work 33 years later when it passed to a farmer in Rodborough. By 2018 the Hampton was acquired in many pieces by the respected restorer and Vintage racer, Allen Clear. The two-seater coachwork with dickey seat was designed by Allen and a major restoration was undertaken to a very high standard.
Now ready for her new custodian, this unique Vintage motor car has considerable presence and appeal.
