The Porsche 968, introduced in 1992, was the final evolution of Porsche's front-engine, four-cylinder sports cars, a lineage that began with the Porsche 924 in the late 1970s. The 968 was a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Porsche 944, featuring a 3. 0-litre inline-four engine that was one of the largest four-cylinder engines of its time. It incorporated advanced technologies like variable valve timing (VarioCam) and a six-speed manual transmission. Despite its balanced performance, refined handling, and distinctive design, the 968 was produced only until 1995, with just over 12, 000 units made, making it a rare and sought-after model among Porsche enthusiasts.
We are pleased to offer this 1993 Porsche 968 in Black with grey leather interior. First registered in April 1993, it was supplied by Lancaster Bow in London. Although it has had 6 former keepers, two of those belonged to the same family and had the car for over 23 years. The service history is really something special. The original book is full with 24 stamps but there is a further loose sheet with 5 more and a second service book with another stamp - a grand total of 30 stamps, all from Porsche dealers. To back up the loose sheet, is a bundle of service invoices from 2016 to 2022, all undertaken by Porsche Centre Wolverhampton, and including one service in 2020 that hasn’t been stamped in the books. That gives us a total of 31 dealer services - incredible! Importantly, the 2021 service was a major one and included replacement of the cam belt and balance belt.
Externally, the black paint would benefit from a paint correction to take it to the next level. There are some age related marks and a couple of very small areas of lacquer peel whilst the rear spoiler paintwork has gone a bit flat. The 17” alloy wheels are generally good and are shod with matching Michelin tyres. The interior has aged well. The dashboard isn’t cracked like so many Porsches of this era and the leather seats wear a light patina, with no obvious rips or tears. It is fitted with part-electric seats and, of course, Porsche’s Tiptronic automatic gearbox which allows you to change gears yourself for those more enthusiastic drives. The car was driven to us from Stafford by our vendor - always a good sign.
The car comes with V5C, full book pack, a bundle of invoices, some old V5s, current and some previous MOTs and a selection of Porsche cleaning products.
The world has woken up to just how good and well balanced the front-engined “transaxle” Porsches are and what value they represent when compared to their 911 brethren. The 968 was the developmental peak of those transaxle cars but having sold in quite low numbers, few remain. We see few cars that have had as much spent on their servicing as this one and with a very sensible reserve this car represents a wonderful opportunity to become a Porsche owner at a very attractive price point.
