MGC Roadster – Exceptional Car with Overdrive
The MGC, planned as a replacement for the Austin Healey 3000, was based on the MGB and intended as a long-distance tourer with a smooth straight six engine developing 150bhp, a top speed in excess of 120mph and, most importantly, an utterly addictive soundtrack.
The press launch of the car was a disaster (incorrect tyre pressures and direct comparison with the AH 3000 was like chalk to cheese) but the passing years have seen opinions move and today the MGC is recognised as a highly desirable, capable and stylish classic and represents one of Abingdon’s best kept secrets.
We have finally found another MGC that meets our high standards and the expectations of our discerning customers. We sold 'Mildred' to her last fastidious owner 4 years ago and he is only selling the beloved 'C' to make way for another Milestones car – he refuses to buy from any other dealer.
Our ‘C’ was originally exported to California in 1967 (first year of production) and repatriated into the UK during 1994 by Brown & Gammons. On arrival the car was recommissioned (photographs in history file), converted to RHD and finished in the best colour of British Racing Green with black leather seats with white piping - the final results are a real credit to the knowledge and skill of the engineers that rebuilt the car at that time
More recently the car has been meticulously maintained benefitting from a stainless-steel exhaust, Fast-Road Engine (MG Motorsport - £6, 000) with reprofiled camshaft from Kent Cams, Peter Burgess lead free/ big valve head & lightened fly-wheel – married with the overdrive gearbox it is one of the best driving MGC’s you could wish to own.
The bodywork does not disappoint with exceptional panel fit, a very good paint finish, lovely chrome (including chrome wire wheels) and the interior is superb with new carpets, hood (folding frame not stick frame) and period radio upgraded for iPod by the Vintage Wireless Company.
The car comes with a huge history file from the date of importation with all MOT’s, lots of invoices, contemporary sales literature etc.
For years the MGC has been an underrated car but it is now acknowledged as a genuine classic tourer that has grown into modern road conditions. With only 4, 542 roadsters manufactured this is a rare opportunity to purchase a superb car that will give years of pleasure to the new owner.
