Mercedes 220Sb W111 Sedan 1965 Fintail for sale The Mercedes 220 W111 Fintail is a large sedan produced between 1960 and 1968. The lineup began with the 220, featuring 95 hp, followed by the 220S with 110 hp. Fuel injection was introduced with the 220SE, boosting the power to 120 hp. The final version, the 230S, came with a 2. 3-liter engine and carburetors, also producing 120 hp. Over 300, 000 Fintail sedans were built, yet it remains a rare and beloved classic today.
Exterior: The Mercedes 220S W111 has had two new front wings fitted at some point during its life, and they were painted in the car's original blue color. Most of the car still retains its original paint. Additionally, most of the chrome is original, though understandably slightly faded over time. The W111 has a lot of glass, and on this car, it is clear and free of scratches—a good indication that it was never driven in winter in Sweden. The car was rust-proofed from an early stage and remains free of rust and filler today. Some minor repairs have been made to the underside over the years, particularly at the usual weak points, but these were done professionally, showing that someone truly cared for this car. The "Finny" is currently riding on a set of Michelin X tires, one of the best choices for a classic Mercedes.
Interior: Inside the cabin of the Mercedes Fintail, everything is 100% original, and it has survived surprisingly well considering the car's age. The cloth seats are in excellent condition, with only two small repairs made to the driver's seat. The headliner still looks like new, as do the beautiful instruments. The carpets are slightly faded, but these cars only had carpeting on the tunnel and the floor in the rear. Up front and on the sills, there are rubber mats, which are in very good condition. A classic Philips radio adds a decorative touch to the dashboard.
Engine and Mechanics: This 220S W111 starts easily and has a very healthy engine sound. The automatic gearbox provides a relaxed driving experience. There isn’t much extra equipment, but everything present works as it should. The 220S has power steering and was serviced recently.
History: This Mercedes was sold new in Sweden on May 6, 1965, and has had only five owners. The first owner was a marvel company in Malmö. Then, the car was family owned for many years. It comes with very detailed documentation of the work done over the years, including the original Swedish registration document, the original handbook, and the dealer’s book, as well as a sales prospectus. It’s clear that the car has been well cared for and was likely never driven in the winter. This is a fantastic and highly original old Mercedes that is sure to put a smile on the face of everyone you drive by.
