OFFERED today by Martin Howey Classics (Est. 26 years) is a 1968 Riley Kestrel Mark II 1300. This model was fitted with the uprated 1275cc unit with Cooper head and twin carbs, knocking out 70 bhp. It was one of the last Kestrel Mark IIs built before the Mark III was introduced as the Riley 1300.
It is in stunning condition all round with history verifying it's current mileage of 31, 200. She drives like a dream. Finished in a superb Kestrel colour combo of Snowberry White and Sandy Beige with matching two-tone interior and wooden sports style dash. Floors and boot floor are in incredible condition and all in original body colour. Seats all trimmed in soft leather.
The Kestrel was top of the tree when it came to the ADO 16 range which worked its way up from Austin, Morris, Wolseley, Vanden Plas and MG on the way to the Riley!
It was built in small numbers and it is believed that maybe something like 150 examples have survived. Very few will be as impressive as this. She has an MoT with no advisories until March 2025. The car was in long term storage from 1986 when it was put away with just 29, 000 miles on the clock. It then emerged from hibernation 31 years later in 2017. Obviously it was re-commissioned. The underside has no corrosion and is finished with Hammerite and Waxoyl. There is a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate showing the date despatched by Dobbs Ltd of Southampton as May 21, 1968.
A truly beautiful Kestrel which drives with that sporty feel to it. A really rare opportunity to acquire a model which was rare enough back in the day!
