Here we have for sale this Defender TD5 110 “HUE166” in Grasmere Green. As can be seen from the photos, this vehicle has been the subject of a comprehensive upgrade to bring it to its current standard – having benefitted from a Heritage-Style rebuild in 2018-2020 which included a Galvanised Bulkhead at great expense – the result is a great looking Station Wagon 110, ready to serve long-term in its new home with an un-welded chassis “to boot”.
Externally, the bodywork is finished in Grasmere Green with lots of styling tweaks all round to a meet a heritage style brief – many parts have been upgraded for improved look, better functionality and improved corrosion resistance. A set of gloss black wheel arches house colour-coded wolf style wheels with meaningful Goodyear Wrangler rubber. Side steps are fitted all round for improved usability and there is even a rear step for the larger family too. As the photos show, it is not just a solid truck but a very good looking one as well.
The interior of this vehicle has been subjected to a similar level of attention and improvement – the headliner looks factory fresh and houses two internal lights for convenience. Moving down from here, there are the expected deluxe trim items one would hope to see in a good quality or later station wagon – and these trims house the rear diagonal belts which are ideal if you need to fit modern car seats. The front enjoys a bespoke steering wheel for that premium feel and a set of re-trimmed deluxe outer high back seats with central cubby box with cup holders (handy for a drive through) which also houses a subwoofer for the HiFi system to give a more pleasing sound. The centre seating arrangement has also been re-trimmed in a similar vein and has secure belts for 3. Moving into the rear area, there are four tip-up seats which again have been re-trimmed and they come complete with individual lap belts which gives a total of 9 belted seats including the driver – quite something for a road going vehicle that is not a minibus! The rear seats fold away to create an unrivalled load space for just about anything so that even a family of five could enjoy this vehicle with the knowledge that they have a huge boot – this could be a fantastic tow car also for a caravan (and is fully equipped with Tow Bar & Electrics should this be needed. The interior fit and carpeting is all very fresh and recent which is lovely to both see and to be part of – particularly when all Defender 110s seem to get tired quite quickly.
Out on the road, this TD5 is a dream to drive… more recent models were fitted with the TDCI engine, which many found to be gutless and lacklustre. This unit is the acclaimed 5 cylinder TD5 unit and due to the fact that it has low miles from new, means that it pulls well throughout the rev range and settles down to motorway cruising at the maximum speed limit. With this being a “modern” Defender 110 it also enjoys luxuries such as anti-lock brakes, 5 speed gearbox, power steering, coil springs, disc brakes and heated screen – all of which culminate into a very up to date feeling Land Rover®. This car was driven to us for purchase from Wales, a long journey involving lots of motorway driving – and of course, being a modern vehicle did the journey without incident or cause for concern.
In summary, if you are looking for a really good Defender 110 with style, solidity, low mileage and all the modern trappings you would hope for, then this family Station Wagon has to be worth considering. With an un-welded chassis and galvanised bulkhead, you are promised a longer lifespan without intervention, so that you can enjoy the vehicle more and repair it less! When one considers how much they would have to part with for a later Defender 110 TDCI in similar styling, this looks like good value – and particularly due to the wonderful galvanised bulkhead (an achilles heel of the Defender) and sound chassis one could argue it is actually a superior and smarter purchase. As always, this vehicle comes with our own in-house major mechanical warranty which means far more than some £300 generic warranty scheme which covers very little. Of course, a complimentary, independent 12 month MOT will provide further peace of mind to a new owner also. We really like this truck and hope you think the same.
