Description
Motodrome are pleased to offer this delightful right hand drive 1975 registered VW Type 2 bay window Devon Caravette, finished in orange and white.
Built in October 1973, this was one of the restyled T2b models with high front indicators/ small badge/ wraparound bumpers, commonly referred to as a late bay.
It was finished in Brilliant Orange under Pastel White and was dewstined for UK export for conversion by Devon as a Caravette, so had the underfloor belly plates to accommodate the pop top conversion as well as the usual UK options such as MPH speedo.
When the last owner acquired it in 2014, the original Caravette interior was serviceable but tired. Hence it was sent to Moores Camper Conversions for a more contemporary 2-berth interior to be installed, which it retains, including it’s Westfalia-style seats and curtains.
Great specification includes full pop up roof, rock and roll bed/ seat with seat belts, buddy seat, PMS3 system with leisure battery and split charger, 3 12v sockets and 4 240v sockets and mains hookup, 4 slim fitting LED lights, sink, double hob and fridge, table with floor pole, and plenty of storage. And a porta potti which lives under the buddy seat.
In the front, the original drivers and passenger seats have been replaced with modern seats from a SAAB, and a rev counter and oil temp gauge have been fitted.
Externally standard with the exception of a roof rack over the cab, and a full length sidestep for the sliding door
We have a big history file for this one, with a very large stack of bills and old MOT’s going back to 1996, but the odometer reading of 68000 is incorrect. The MOT database shows it had done 87470 miles in 2008, but then 52913m in 2009.
A Remtec reconditioned engine was fitted in 2008, so from the above we think it’s done around 16000 miles since.
Other work in the last owners time include, but are not limited to, a reconditioned gearbox in 2017, new twin carburettors 2018, a full repaint in the original colour scheme in 2022, and the brakes rebuilt just over 100 miles ago, so they’re still bedding in. .
Last serviced at 67749m in May 2023
It’s RFL and MOT exempt, and ready for new adventures.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions.
