We proudly present this rare variant of the DeLorean DMC-12 Early Build Training Car! Chassis number 615, the 116th vehicle to roll off the production line! 2. 8 V6 Automatic!
The History
We won't bore you with the story of this crazy company, if you're looking at this you will likely know the story of John DeLorean. If not, sign up to Netflix and watch the show about it! This particular DMC-12 is a very early car, 116th of approximately 9000 units in total. This is a very rare training vehicle, one of approximately a dozen unpainted cars, visiting the dealerships to teach the technicians how to service them! This example was featured by DeLorean Nation in the USA prior to restoration works! Youtube Video Link at the bottom of this page! It was recommissioned in the USA after that video was made, before coming to the UK and being registered here in 2022. We have little documentation but we are aware of some of the restoration being carried out by renowned experts, PJ Grady, including a complete bearings and seals engine rebuild! Clearly evident in the condition from the video to present day. PJ Grady values this car much higher than our asking price. Serious buyers are welcome to call him for his opinion!
The Mechanicals
Please see the underside photos following the restoration, it looks stunning underneath! Like all DeLorean’s, there are some idiosyncrasies with occasional ignition issues and electrical components occasionally deciding not to work - that is perfectly normal for a DMC, any of you that have owned one will have experienced the same! It is in fine fettle in the engine compartment as you will see by the photographs.
The Exterior
Following the restoration the stainless steel is near perfect condition. The front-end shroud is free of any chips or blemishes, plastic bumpers are in excellent condition as are the rare Dark Wheels, believed only fitted to training cars! The wheels also exceptional, shod in matching Radial Cooper Cobras with excellent tread. All trims are excellent, the rear hood is slightly rubbing on the cross member, one of the idiosyncrasies of an early car! The original windscreen is installed and has a crack showing, we haven’t replaced it as it shows its originality however, we have sourced and included a replacement in the price if requested. A couple of rare items to note; the textured pods in the engine bay, fuel flap in the bonnet and unpainted underside to engine cover!
The Interior
Again, very good condition throughout the interior. Note, it has the original rare, stitched leather instrument pod! The leather is free from and noticeable wear following the restoration and it’s a delightful place to sit!
The Paperwork
There is very little paperwork aside from the V5c. However, there is some lovely history with regard to the YouTube video about this car, and the clear level of restoration that has been undertaken.
The Conclusion
To summarise, this is a super rare DeLorean, if you are a collector, this surely must be added!
It comes restored and ready to enjoy starting at for hours on end!
