Description
About 35 years ago I was visiting a well-known dealer in pre-war and classic cars, at that moment a very exclusive pre-war classic Mercedes had just arrived that they had purchased via the so-called Treuhandanstalt, the organization that sold various items from the former GDR. From the trunk of this Mercedes came this beautiful wall plaque painted in Art Deco style, about 100 years old now made entirely of solid wood in the dimensions 120x80 and 5. 5cm thick, so quite heavy. After some difficult negotiations I managed to buy it. For years it hung in my office. At one point I decided to find out its history, eventually there were all kinds of names on it and a place.
Via the city archives of Eisenach I came into contact with Mrs. From, born Korndorfer, the wife of one of the owners. When I told her what object I had I heard a heartfelt crying fit for the first few minutes, when she finally told her story it was moving, her husband and partner had a very large car company in Eisenach, dealerships of Mercedes and Hanomag. After the war the Russians confiscated almost the entire company and established a barracks there after which they had to sell everything for a pittance to the GDR state, a lot of misery that probably had a cause, all that is clear from the photos, I did not go into that further. Her husband had also died at a relatively young age in a motorcycle accident.
Now the history of the sign, the house of the Cwienk family was attached to the company, Mrs. Cwienk wanted the door in between to be removed and for that place the sign was made by their house painter, given the result a particularly skilled and artistic person. I had a large format photo reproduction made and sent it to Mrs. From sent shortly afterwards came by post all sorts of things with an accompanying letter, advertising material, photos and even the silver pin that Mr. Cwienk received in connection with long-term dealership of Mercedes, her only son had no interest in these historical items at all, I also received an invitation by letter to visit her, unfortunately that never happened.
I now intend to sell the board, which is in storage at home now, possibly including all documents and the pin. I will not mention amounts but bargain hunters need not report, a seriously interested person can call me
