This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024 - Cars on Saturday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. When Ford launched the Escort XR3, the benchmark Volkswagen Golf GTi had ruled the hot hatchback market for several years. However, Ford's new offering was a package that combined the looks, performance and handling demanded by customers in the early 1980s. With the introduction of the fuel-injected XR3i in 1983, performance was further improved and the XR range captivated a new younger audience who had moved on from the old rear-wheel drive Escorts beloved by their parents.
On offer here is a very good UK-supplied, right-hand drive XR3i showing only 12, 232 miles and just three former keepers. First registered on 9th November 1982, the car is finished in Sunburst Red and boasts the 5-speed manual gearbox with the 1, 600cc engine with Bosch fuel-injection.
Clearly well looked after by its previous keepers but it’s been off the road since 2006 and sat in a garage ever since. Upon joining the our vendor's Collection, he noticed that whilst in long-term storage, the paint lacquer had started to peel and he felt the engine bay needed a general refresh in order to get the car to his exacting standards despite the low mileage.
As a result, the XR3i has recently been the beneficiary of much recent investment with a full body repaint and full mechanical recommissioning. The results are clear to see and we encourage all interested parties to come and view the car in the metal to fully appreciate the amount of work and attention this rare Ford has recently received.
The car is accompanied by its dealer book pack, old MOTs, tax discs and the V5C. This is a very good example of the model and we welcome your enquiry and inspection at the NEC.
