This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024 - Cars on Saturday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. When the MINI John Cooper Works GP was officially announced back in late 2012, even hardened Mini enthusiasts had to take a second look at the numbers. 1598cc, turbocharged, 215bhp @6000rpm, 206ft. lb of torque, 0-60 in 6. 1 seconds and 150mph!
Even a standard Cooper S is a fast and feisty little car, but the GP2 promised something altogether more serious. Apart from the inevitable graphics and the aero kit (which reduced drag by six per cent), it benefitted from a radical programme of upgrades: new adjustable-ride-height coil-over suspension (with inverted dampers at the front) providing increased camber and reduced front toe-in for greater agility, an all-new braking system featuring six-piston calipers and 330mm front discs, GP-specific and super-sticky track day tyres, and reconfigured stability control functions including a more aggressive Electronic Differential Lock Control. There were no rear seats but who cares!
The new Works GP had all the makings of a new 'hero' and so it was to prove. Costing £28, 790, just 2, 000 were made with production ceasing in 2014.
This smart example was supplied new by Vines of Guilford in Thunder Grey Metallic with red detailing and optioned with the JCW aerodynamic kit and air-conditioning. From two years current ownership, it's been enjoyed by five previous keepers and has covered an indicated 34, 565 miles. It was last serviced at 31, 833 miles on 21/ 03/ 2024 at Sytner Mini Slough and the current MOT (no advisories) is valid until March 2025.
