OFFERED today at Martin Howey Classics (Est. 26 years) is a mega rare 1934 Vauxhall 14/ 6 deluxe. The Vauxhall Motor Company made high quality cars during the pre-war years, producing around a fifth of the motor cars built by the likes of Morris And Austin. The 14/ 6 was a 1530cc family saloon. And, most incredibly for the era, the straight-six engine was overhead valve!
Make no mistake, this is a gem of a classic. Now 90-years-old and in the most incredible condition. Looking underneath for starters, it must have been a "ground up" restoration. The underside is in black gloss matching the body's paintwork and is simply stunning. You can see every nut and bolt. This car could still be in the 1930s. In fact, when it was just a few years old, I can't imagine it would have been as clean and straight as this.
Attention to detail is amazing. The brand new green leather (correct spec for the black model), the roof lining, the magnificent door interiors with their chrome handles and winders, the sunroof, the car's chrome, badges, green spoked wheels (correct again). The list and the detail just goes on and on. Even the green stripes along the car's bodywork are painted and not stick-on tape! It would be hard to imagine that there is a better example around. As you would imagine, she has a really sweet ohv engine and yes, I have driven her. She is a straightforward 4-speed manual. The brake pedal responded the other day but did not seem to keen yesterday. They are rod operated brakes and I would advise some adjustment/ check over.
This Vauxhall has a real "Bonnie and Clyde" look to it. Also I am pleased to report that it comes without any bullet holes to the gorgeous bodywork! The V5 states just three former keepers - yes, in 90 years - and as I say, what a gem of a vehicle.
