Description

This example

This very original and nicely restored Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint GT Veloce was delivered new to Brussels, Belgium in 1967 to a Mr. Jean VandenAbeele. The delivery date was 22 March 1967. With the car was the original service book and the ‘Certificate de Garantie’ showing the owner and the key numbers. The car is presented as delivered new in the ‘couleur’ Blanche.

15 years ago the car came to Holland and according to the pictures the car was thoroughly restored and it shows. The car was completely dismantled and taken to bare metal (see pictures). The sills were renewed and the standard rust points of the 105 series all repaired. The mechanics were apparently rebuilt. Since restoration the car was only used occasionally.

Now after more than a decade the good quality of the restoration shows. The quality of the bodywork is excellent, as is the panel fit. The paintwork is very nice. The interior is in exceptional condition with the brown leatherette on the Veloce sport seats. We acquired the car 6 years ago for the current selling family.

Since restoration the car had seen little use and we brought the car directly to one of the best shops to be prepared for proper use. After a thorough service and work on suspension and brakes the car is ready to enjoy. The car can come with the original standard steel 14 inch wheels with hubcaps or with 15 inch alloy GTA style wheels. If preferred we also can deliver with 14 inch GTA replica wheels but we think the steel wheels are the best looking ones.

This Veloce is Dutch registered and comes with invoices, copy manuals and pictures of restoration. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce is one of the rarest and most desirable of the 105 ‘Bertone’ series.

The price is Euro 59. 500,-.

Model history

The basic body shape shared by all 105/ 115 series coupés was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone. It was one of his first major projects for Bertone. The balance of glass and metal, the shape and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were groundbreaking styling features for the era. All models featured the four cylinder, all-light-alloy Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine in various cubic capacities from 1290 cc to 1962 cc, all with two valves per cylinder. Common to all models was also a 5-speed manual transmission and disc brakes on all wheels.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT was the first Giulia sport model introduced, and was manufactured from 1963 to 1965. In its original form the Bertone body is known as scalino or ‘step front’, because of the leading edge of the engine compartment lid which sat above the nose of the car.

The Giulia Sprint GT was fitted with the 1, 570 cc displacement version of Alfa Romeo’s all-aluminium twin cam inline four, which had debuted on the 1962 Giulia Berlina. Breathing through two twin-choke Weber 40 DCOE 4 carburettors, on the Sprint GT this engine produced 105 hp at 6, 000 rpm. In total 21, 902 Giulia Sprint GT’s were produced from 1963 to 1965, when the model was superseded by the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. The Veloce had 109 bhp and slightly better torque and was capable of 185 km/ h. Weight was 1020 kg. This high performance version was introduced at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce was extremely good with its great handling, nimbleness in traffic, first class performance, ease of driving and highly efficient braking system. It is one of the rarest and most desirable of the 105 ‘Bertone’ series.
