The Saab 9-3 Aero Carlsson is a special edition of the Saab 9-3 model, introduced to honour Erik Carlsson, the legendary Swedish rally driver known for his successes in the 1960s. Launched in 2010, the 9-3 Carlsson was a high-performance variant of the 9-3 Turbo, featuring enhancements in both design and engineering. With a 2. 8-litre V6 turbocharged engine, the Carlsson edition boasted up to 276 bhp, making it one of the most powerful Saab models. The car was equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, all-wheel drive, and distinctive styling cues, including special badges and a more aggressive front bumper. Its limited production (only 96 produced, Erik being most well-known for rallying the Saab 96) has made it a coveted model for Saab enthusiasts, embodying the brand’s reputation for innovation and motorsport heritage.
We are delighted to offer this 2010 Saab 9-3 Aero Carlsson in Arctic White with black leather interior. First registered in November 2010 and supplied by Schoneville Saab in Glasgow, the car has had 4 previous owners, last changing hands in 2015. One look at it will confirm that it has been much loved and this is supported by a service book containing some 12 stamps. The most recent service took place last May at 60, 522 miles and, with a few other jobs, came to a not insignificant £1, 678. 55.
To the uninitiated this may look like a standard 9-3 Aero but it has been subtly enhanced with a Hirsch-style 8 piece bodykit (and a genuine Hirsch grille insert) wrapped, or possibly dipped, to give a high quality carbon-effect finish. The original diffuser, rear spoiler and some other details have the same finish. The carbon-effect looks fantastic against the white paint and together with the lowered stance of the standard fit “ultra sport chassis” gives the car a handsome yet purposeful aesthetic. The big 19” wheels have been kept free from kerb damage and, as you would hope for the performance model, come fitted with high quality, matching Bridgestone tyres. The interior is in great condition with virtually no obvious wear to the leather seats. Nappa leather trimming to the handbrake, door handles and instrument panel make for a very luxurious cabin. The specification for the Carlsson was extremely high, with niceties such as BOSE audio, electric memory seats in the front, auto dimming mirrors, rain sensing wipers and cruise control. Although all Carlssons were automatic, the perforated leather wheel is fitted with manual shift buttons for those more enthusiastic drives.
The car comes with V5C, current and some previous MOTs, a bundle of maintenance and parts invoices, full book pack, spare grille inserts and an outside car cover. There is also a second key, although this has sustained some damage.
Despite having been out of business for over a decade, there remains a huge amount of affection for the Saab brand, particularly here in the UK. The Carlsson turned out to be the pinnacle of the final 9-3 generation and, having been made in such limited numbers, this makes it extremely collectible. The condition and history of this particular car are hard to ignore and even harder to repeat.
