Description
Maybe not as quite as rare as a Unicorn but certainly rare in SD1circles, only 1040 cars where built. When did you last see a series one V8-S ? The last one I saw, was my fathers car back in the early 1980's. This car was first registered March 1980 and was supplied by Mann Eggerton. Finished in Persian Aqua with distinct the Gold alloy wheels. The V8-S was Rovers attempt at taking the car more upmarket. They specified air conditioning, a new velour fabric for the upholstery, cloth coverings for the plastic door trims, and deep shag-pile carpets. They added head restraints to the rear seats, and all four head restraints had press-studs to take detachable cushions. The bumpers were finished on Black along with the badging and V8 badges adorned the front wings. It also featured a special version of the Triplex Ten-Twenty windscreen with a graduated green anti-glare band at the top.
The V8-S was introduced on 2 July 1979, and a launch stock of 900 cars ensured that every Rover/ Triumph outlet in the UK would have at least one example to sell. All those first 900 cars came with metallic paint in one of three colours (Midas Gold, Persian Aqua Blue or the attention-grabbing new Triton Green. However, V8-S production lasted only until the summer of 1980. The model was replaced by the much more resolved, 1981-model 3500 Vanden Plas.
