Description

This fabulous UK supplied 105 Series has covered just 53, 000 miles from new, it remains in exceptional and largely original condition throughout and comes with a full and comprehensive history from new to date.

According to the Alfa Romeo Museum archives this 2000 GTV was specified in the fantastic colour combination of metallic olive green with hazelnut cloth interior which it has retained throughout its life. It was manufactured on the 30th October 1973 and was then invoiced to Alfa Romeo Great Britain the following day. It was supplied new to Alfa dealer Cloverleaf Cars based in Basingstoke, indeed their dealer plaque remains in place on the passenger door sill strip.

Cloverleaf sold the car and registered it on 13th June the 1975, the first owner is unknown and after only four months and minimal mileage the car was purchased by the second owner in whose family the car would remain until 2009. This gentleman, a motoring enthusiast and owner of a car dealership in Ramsgate, Kent was a serious collector of mainly Aston Martins, including a number of rare Ex Works DB models. He used the Alfa carefully on the road covering an average of 5, 000 miles per annum during the first eight years of the car’s life. Being an active member of the Aston Martin Owners Club the owner participated in AMOC organised hill climbs on several occasions with the GTV at Wiscombe Park in Devon as confirmed by a windscreen sticker and scrutineers ticket dated 1981 in the history file.

This second owner passed away in 1998 and in March of that year the car was registered in his wife’s name. For the following nine years the car remained in storage until it passed to the owner’s son in 1997 at which point the mileage was still only 47, 405 miles as recorded on the MOT certificate on file from July 1997. Less than 20 miles were recorded over the next four MOT certificates, the one issued in June 2000 showing 47, 427 miles.

The original family entered the Alfa into a Bonhams auction held at The Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2009 at which point it was bought by a Sussex farmer who had owned a similar car many years prior. Having spent the previous nine years in storage the car was immediately transported from the auction to a local specialist, Crawford and Son of East Sussex, for a full evaluation and re-commissioning. The invoice on file details the work completed and following this the car was transported to the farmer’s second home in Padstow, Cornwall, where it joined his significant car collection.

This new owner covered just 295 miles during four short summer trips on Cornish lanes before selling the Alfa in 2014 at 47, 749 miles to respected Alfa specialist, James Wheeler of Black and White Garage, based in Newbury. The car was then sent to Alfa Romeo Giulia expert restorer, John Holden of Middle Wallop, Hampshire for a full glass out repaint. As stated on file, John commented that this was one of the most original unmessed about with 105 series cars he had ever worked on with absolutely no welding evident or required. Following this, a mechanical evaluation was carried out leading to a major service and new clutch. All of this work is documented and detailed on file.

Following completion of this work Black and White Garage offered the car for sale as per their advert on file. It quickly found a buyer in July 2014, the mileage being recorded as 47, 906 miles on the invoice on file. This owner retained the car until January this year, at which point I was fortunate enough to buy the car. This last owner had looked after the Alfa perfectly with annual servicing without regard to cost being completed by local specialist Thornley Kelham, all work completed being detailed in invoices on file. During his tenure the mileage rose to 53, 212 miles. The car only being used on dry summer days, it was stored at other times in a perfect dry environment.

We purchased the car directly from the above-mentioned owner in October 2021 and following a full inspection by our specialist the only items requiring attention were tyres as they were over six years old, hence we bought five new period correct Michelin XAS tyres from Longstone Tyres, following fitment of these and a new rear exhaust section. The car sold shortly after purchase to a regular Hairpin customer who had been looking for just such a vehicle. He has used it minimally and we now have it back for sale following a new purchase and hence space issue. Since its return we have had the car fully inspected once again and fully serviced by the renowned Alfa specialists, Day and White. They were most impressed with the car!

So here we have one of the finest UK supplied 2000 GTV models remaining with just 53, 500 miles recorded in superb, very original unwelded condition with a full history from new and just three owners since the auction sale from long term family ownership spanning 1975 to 2009. It comes with an extensive history file, all tools, keys and a period correct radio reconfigured to allow modern phone streaming. I have loved the 105 Series Alfa’s for many years and have owned a great example since 1998, they satisfy on so many levels both dynamically and visually for still not much money.
