SLJ Hackett are delighted to offer another example of the Bristol 404. 1 of only 51 examples ever produced, 404/ 2007 features eye catching Metallic Red coachwork paired tastefully with Light Tan leather upholstery and body matching piping and carpets.
Originally dispatched to the original owner of Devon, UK in February 1954. The 404 spent the first 12 years of it’s life in the South Of England until the a Mr E M Peck of Great Slaughton in 1966.
January 1978 a Mr Robert Macpherson of Aylesbury purchased the car. 3 Years later Bristol Cars acquired the car and put it to use as a test bed for running in freshly rebuilt engines and using the car for demonstrations etc.
June 1984 saw the Mr J Calladine, the youngest son of a family of Bristol owners approach Anthony Crook the Chairman of Bristol Cars during this period regarding the purchase of his own Bristol. 404/ 2007 was sold to Mr Calladine in what was noted to be reasonably poor condition mainly due to lack of use. By this point the engine was changed to the current 100B2 still accompanying the car to this day. The millage of the car stated 31, 845 from new.
Major works began to take place with marque specialists TT Workshops, Westbury commissioned to completely strip and rebuild the car with both the engine and gearbox receiving a total overhaul and any defective parts to be changed. After receiving a new lease of life 404/ 2007 was being enjoyed regularly and visiting Bristol Cars, TT Workshops and Spencer Lane-Jones yearly to preserve the condition of the car.
The Bristol 404 was launched at the 1953 Earls Court Motor Show in 1953, the Bristol was very much a shock if compared to the previous models Bristol produced. Based upon the short chassis Bristol ever used on their production cars, the 404 was labelled the ‘Business mans express’.
The current owner has enjoyed 8 years of trouble free driving taking the mileage to 57, 000 (from new?) and only seeks to sell the car as advancing years means he has to reduce his collection of cars.
