Description
This beautifully presented Mercedes Benz 219 Ponton was purchased by one of our local long term customers based just several miles away in Thornton-Le-Dale, near Pickering. The Mercedes Benz has been part of a lovely collection over the past few years and having enjoyed ownership, the time has come to downsize his collection. PXP 63 is a rare car, part of the Ponton family, the Type 219 was introduced in 1956 and powered by a 2195cc six cylinder engine with four speed manual transmission and reported to be capable of 92 mph. Only 27845 of these cars were built and survivors are rare.
Our original RHD example was supplied new to South Africa and assembled there by Cars Distributors Assembly of East London, now known as Mercedes Benz South Africa. Having spent its early life in South Africa the Mercedes Benz was imported into the UK in 2003 and during the early 2000's subject of an extensive, high quality restoration. Since coming into the hands of our local customer in 2001 this example has covered around 400 faultless miles and has proven a completely reliable, robust and very enjoyable car to drive.
Many years on since restoration PXP 63 presents beautifully with a high standard of bodywork, chrome and brightwork. The panels are impressive throughout, there are no visible areas of corrosion and the car has the appearance of a much loved, carefully owned example. Its clear previous owners have had a keen eye for detailing, the car would not look out of place on the show circuit and the interior has nicely aged, its well presented with a very original feel. On the road our Mercedes Benz is impressive, the six cylinder engine is fit and strong and offers very good performance, the manual column change gearbox is a delight to use and the 219 handles and brakes very well. The car feels direct, very well maintained and offers a very pleasant, relaxed driving experience. PXP 63 is a charming example, its beautifully finished and ready to use and enjoy.
