This Spider was originally produced on the 20th of January 1976 and delivered to its first owner on March 9th. The first owner had taste, as according to official production records of Alfa Romeo Centro Documentazione the car was delivered exactly as it is presented today: Verde Inglese 219 over a Nero leatherette interior. All this is confirmed by the infamous Certificate of Authenticity - which also confirms the matching numbers status of this Spider!
Throughout its life, the Alfa has remained in Italy, and a few years ago received a comprehensive, bare-metal & engine-out overhaul. Some pictures of these restoration works are present in the car's history file. Images suggest that the car was in a pretty solid state prior to restoration, but that only the floors needed total re-doing. Correct floors with the original pressings were let in. The paint finish is correct and consistent throughout, with neat panel gaps on all the apertures. The interior still presents some original parts such as the door cards, the rubber cover behind the seats and the carpet cover on the central tunnel. Ofcourse some signs of 50+ years of use are apparant, but they also indicate the charm of originality as its not too far gone! Another detail that is nice to see is the original Pininfarina radio blanking plate for example, the orignial Alfa Romeo log on the center of the steering wheel and many other details. The seats have, naturally, been re-upholstered in the correct material and the rubbers floor mats are new as well as in the boot.
The main mechanical components were overhauled throughout the process as well, as the rear axle, gearbox and engine received its needed attention. Today the Spider drives wonderfully and offers a very well-balanced package. The car is suited with a pair of well-tuned SOLEX carburettors, which start up from cold without the need for choke and offer a smooth, linear power curve once up to temperature. All the electric ancillaries work perfectly as does the heater etc. This is without doubt one of the finer presented Alfa Romeo Spider S2's on the current market and needs for nothing before being enjoyed by a new custodian.
It is accompanied by all original accessories and documentation including: jack, spare wheel, toolkit, original user manual, technical supplement, period registration documentation and a dedicated history file. The car can be supplied on Dutch historic numberplates for the Dutch customers or with export Italian documents for registration anywhere else.
Bite-size:
Spiders of this magnitude do not come by often. The specification of this example is near-perfect as is the quality of the restoration and its current technical state. If a Spider is on your list, make sure to take this one into serious consideration.
