Description

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 2 109 Ragtop in Deep Bronze Green (1960).

Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Rear Bench Seats. Heater with Front Demist. Twin Wipers. “Banjo” Steering Wheel. Recent Canvas. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Tow Ball and Electrics Kit. Wing-Top Mounted Mirrors. Hidden Immobiliser. Previously sold by us in 2019.

We are delighted to present for sale this early 109 Series 2 Land Rover®, previously refurbished to order by us in 2019. Due to a change in the previous owners circumstances, namely a loss of storage, it is now once again to purchase through us. We think these 109s really offer superb value for money, alongside flexibility for the owner – read on below.

Externally, this has all the features one would hope to see in an early Series 2 109 (not a 2a) – the dateless 6 digit registration, the wing top mounted mirrors, bonnet mounted spare, recent canvas, vintage number plates, glass lensed lights instead of plastic replacements, rear grab handles – etc etc. It is great to see a modern tow ball with electrics has been fitted to allow towing – meaning this vehicle can be used for work purposes or play if so desired. We really think the photos speak for themselves on this one, and if you asked someone to draw you a Series 2 109 – we are pretty sure this is very close to what they’d come up with – even down to the colour scheme which is the original and most popular.

On the inside, the interior is largely standard with three front standard seats, and deluxe matting to the footwells (supplied by us in 2019). There is a heater with front de-mist, which would’ve been an expensive fitted option at the time of build – along with the passenger wiper, as the early Series 2s were only supplied with one as standard! It maintains other period correct features like the early “Banjo” steering wheel with the horn on the stalk – rather than the later integrated push button variant. The only real notable addition is a set of modern indicators, which are on the panel by the drivers left knee on a toggle. The rear houses a pair of bench seats meaning seating for seven – and there is actually a facility to fit another pair to bring seating to 11 people – something many customers do if they like to go shooting or for a walk with friends in the winter! The large load bay is protected by a floor mat… we are very fond of this format as they’re incredibly versatile for just about any use you can throw at them – from carrying the dogs, the logs and coal, the surfboards or the kayaks, the Christmas tree without having to strap it to the roof of the family hatchback… the list really does go on and on. Many customers actually opt to use these as a vintage “show vehicle” or sign write them for a business… the most recent being a landscaping company who used it to lug their tools around – and the one before that was a vintage (mobile) coffee retailer, with a machine in the rear which slid out onto the tailgate!

Out on the road, this Series 2 109 gives a pleasing period drive – the longer wheel base and the additional weight (and the subsequent distribution) across the axles actually means a better ride than a comparable standard Series 2 SWB, and the petrol engine is a joy – with a nice exhaust note and thanks to a recent brake service, it stops just as it should too. Larger wheels and tyres than standard mean a more relaxed cruising experience when at speed also, which is a nice touch.

In summary, if you are looking for a Series Land Rover® which can be used for work purposes or as a fun family truck to head to the beach, the woods with the bikes in the back, or taking the dogs for a walk, then this could be for you. We think this represents outstanding value for money when one considers it also comes with a our industry-leading major mechanical warranty, as well as being an MOT & Tax Exempt truck which also benefits from classic insurances.
